    Helo, and Be welcome.

This is Adventure #02-3a : Under Quarantine.

About the Music :: I do not intend any offence to anyone's right, and I do not really own the music I suggest my readers listen during the Story; the suggestion is in honour to the musicians who created those beautiful songs, and I explicitly want to thank you very much.

Mister Kue was walking his village, when he got to the central square and saw a very expensive car in front of the tavern, a bar with more than a hundred sandwishes on the menu, and the only safeplace for eating on Uke. It's a very old house, two floor, and there's a number of shops on the right.

Dundién Loi was passing. He must get to school before 08:15 morning. Loi sees the ranger Kue by the entrance of Paalxi's sandwicherie, but he stops at the sense of something. A sense of out of place, something in the square is different, or gathers that sense which makes you think there's a wrong thing around, was it a weirdy, a nightmare, or a damned item, he doesn't know.

He almost forgot everything about it, during math test this morning.

Kue first looked at the car. A very expensive vehicle, some only the corporates can use because the right of use is restricted, and probably armored.

    - Good morning, Kappko - he says.
    - Oha! Mornin', ranger Kue. Whareo need?
    - Black caoffee and no sweet.
    - Here's it. 'f you want a sandwich, just ask. Hi, old Doe. Wap?
    - Mroning, cook - says the old man, and he nodded to cumpliment Kue, looking to the foreigner sitted at the table six drinking a freshfruit juice and analyzing a screen.
    - Wharyou need, Doe? - asked Kappko.
    - Give me a stroke of scrambled eggs wi' bacon - says the old man.
    - Excuse me - says mister Kue.

He went to talk to the foreigner, stoping by his table.

    - Helo, visitor. Be welcome to Uke - says the ranger.
    - Ohe, thank you, ranger. I'm just passing. On a trip to Ryklant. But the city's great. Is that a mythic era's castle, I can see by the valley ends?
    - It's private. The family holds the right for the last millennia, or so.
    - There's a cemetery, also. Huge.
    - The older the city, the bigger it's cemetery - says the ranger.
    - What's the speciality of this city, if you please?
    - You're on the right place. Our cookman's the best place to eat, but I would taste the sweets. We have a local cooperative which produce delicious candies, in here.
    - I'll have it, later - says the man - Thank you.
    - If you need something, just ask.

The man smiled, but it looked he was feeling pain, or something.

Of course, the ranger took a very good look at the screen, and it shown the stock market tables. A thing only a rich person would care. Someone with money to buy anything, who could buy the city castle and it wouldn't make a mess on his schedule.

The young bullying boys got to eat, and at the sight of the ranger, they stay calm and caused not problems. Mister Kue's respected by the whole village, same way his father before.

So, the day went right and the sunset was beautiful.

Youngsters went to the main square to celebrate the moon entity, the Bloody, and this time the raýla moon was mostly something one could not describe.

    Red, bloody and immense.

The second moon was not at the sky, by the time the cookman closed.

    (Day 2 - Thursday)

At the morning, the ranger Kue received a call, and it was the cookman Kappko saying "Ranger, come here. I don't know what to say. Please, come here" and he went. The sanduicherie was closed. The cooker opened the door, and it was about sunrise. Kue didn't understood a word he was saying, but Kappko took him up the hostel rooms, and opened the room two.
The richman host was on the bed, and he's dead.

Blood features the whole of the room, from the roof to the door, and there's an air of wrong on the place, which a very experienced ranger looked, and closed the door.

    - How did you find him?
    - 'was coming to see 'f 'e wanted someth'g an' h'was dead. Every morning, I do cleanse on the bathrooms, an' take 'e garbage wastes.
    - Close the room, and don't let anyone get up here. I'll see the doctor first, so he'll say what happened. You do your work as nothing happened, because the killer must be around.
    - Yews, sir - answered the cooker.

The morning was running normal, to most of the 329 inhabitants, and for the last 9 years mister Kue served the village of Uke, by the borders of Tachiza and Abbas, since he mastered ranger at the police corporation, this was the very first time he had no clue of what's going on.

He called Doctor Prassèc Pellsèg saying this was a call of duty.

The doctor, when came to the place, stared at the room. He moved his left hand to mouth and down, as every doctor should do, and started to think.

After some investigation, Pellsèg concluded the blood from the dry body simply exhaled from the body, and it went in every direction.

And so, he saw a thing at the window.

    - See here, ranger - says the doctor - It's a hand, like one of a child. Maybe eleven years old. And it's from outside the window. Kappko, was this window opened, when you came into the room?
    - Nope, wasn'd. 'tis the same way i' was, by the time I got in.
    - What do you think it can be, doctor?
    - I don't know, ranger. But,... as soon as the phenomenologists come here, you'll lose your ranger status, and the village will be on the news.
    - I know - says the ranger - Kappko, we need to talk with Bo. Do you know if she's on her room?
    - She's 'ome, ranger. I'll take you to 'er room on the back o' the hostel.

While doctor Pellsèg continued analyzing the dried body, the ranger went down with the cookman to talk with the beautiful girl who lives on the back of the restaurant. After going down the stairs, he noticed he could see the window which the doctor found the little hand, and the cookman knocked on the door. It took sometime until the young lady open it.

    - Good morning, Drýka Bo - says the officer - I need to talk to you. Kappko.
    - Oke, ranger - says the cookman - 'll wait on the front. 'f ya need me, just call.

The young lady's just woke up, and didn't understood a thing.

    - Any problem, ranger? - she asked.
    - I need to ask you if you listened to anything wrong during the night.
    - Well,... - she passed her left hand on her head and hair - yes. I could not sleep well, 'cause I stay listening to a sound, as it was a branch hitting a window. Like,... repeatedly. "Tack, ta-tacke, tack" all night long, and I think I've listened to a child's voice, like, singing. She was afraid, or maybe crying.
    - Good. Don't you have to work today, miss Bo?
    - No - she's looking terrible - I've just sent a message to the tavern, saying I'm sick. I just got a cold. Nothing serious, hope not.
    - Oke. Stay home, but call Kappko if you listen to anything strange.
    - Is there something wrong, ranger?
    - Yes, but I need you not telling this anyone. I'm working on something important, Bo, and so don't tell I've came to talk to you yet or it will mess us up.

Once the waitress agreed, he looked she locking the door, and went up again.

    - This is serious, ranger - says doctor Pellsèg - This person had all his blood drained while dying, and he's face shows fear. Look. There's no fingerprints besides his own, and the only thing not covered with blood is this small table, at the right of the bed.
    - Someone took all his blood off him.
    - No, ranger. The blood we can see on the walls is not his same blood type.
    - Now I agree with what you've said, doctor. If we make it public, the phenomenologists will come as soon as the wind blows. We need to solve the crime without calling them, or the media will talk about it for the next century, and we're going to lose our village to the supernatural mad people.
    - I'll call the city council to talk, by my house, in about three hours. We're going to need someone with a special lore on what's happening.
    - What do you mean, doctor?
    - The boy, our best student in town; Dundièn Loi.
    - What about him?
    - He'll probably be on the central square by now, watching.
    - Do you suspect of him?
    - No. No, no. He's studying magic, ranger, and you're going to need his guidance. I know, oke. But we just can't throw away the possibility that this is a supernatural occurrence, ranger.
    - I'll go talk with him, and he's going to be my assistant.
    - And I, well, the elders will need about an hour to go my house, so keep your eyes opened.
    - I'll call Kappko and order to close the second floor.

    Music :: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNvFPKujc5w

That said, the ranger send a message to his two assistant officers, to duty. He explained they must not call the attention of the people, but must take turns into watching the village. Anything strange must be reported, even small things can give a hint of what's happening. They don't ask, just do. And as the doctor said, the best student was on the plaza reading a book, but he immediately looked the ranger coming, and looked as knowing something was wrong. The ranger doesn't like this kind o' thing.
    - Come with me, Dundièn Loi.
    - May I help you, ranger? - the youngster asked promptly.
    - This time, you'll be my assistant. Let's go the doctor's house, and have a little talk. Don't stay out of my line of sight.

After explaining the young boy what's happening, he was surprised doctor Pellsèg knew about his studies about magic, but agreed to help. Dundièn explained he never told anyone he studies dreamcasting magic, which is what their village name means from the mythic era word, Huhka, but the ranger replied.

    - The elders know much more than you think, Loi.
    - Not on our village, ranger. Magic is a secret so old and lost, no one knows much about it. I study it from a grimoire, which was my grand grandfather's. I study dreamcasting.
    - Right oke. Let's go get your book right now, and see what you can find.

They went Loi's house, by the end of the valey, where they can see the old Aoke family castle, on one side, and the Valey of Shadows on the other.

Loi's father is blind, but he was happy when his son says he's a ranger trainee now.

Then, after Loi got his book, they went back to doctor Pellsèg's house.

    (After the Elder's meeting)

Loi was the whole morning inspecting his grimoire to see what he could do. When the elders got to a conclusion, they are in the case. They decided they don't want phenomenologists on their village, and gave order to the ranger to solve the crime before it comes to the media.

    - It's a Haunter. Look - says the boy, showing the page.
    - Are you trying to say there's a ghost killing people on my town, boy?
    - That's exactly what I'm saying, ranger Boolwec.

The ranger didn't know if he should laugh or take that seriously.

    - And how do we kill it?
    - Huh,.... it doesn't say in here. Let me see,... it just say here we can open a portal to the dream plane while it's at the point of killing someone, and to face it and talk to it to discover it's weakness.
    - Great. It sounds like serious babbling to me - confronted the ranger.
    - No, ranger - says Loi - It's serious. It says here it will start killing everyone, and it can kill an entire population, and so the dream plane dead it take days to turn the place into a necropolis.
    - I don't know anything about what you're saying.
    - Believe me. We're in deep danger.

The ranger Boolwec Kue never ever believed in ghosts. His training at the police corporation ended nine years ago, and they receive the best training on Akkoya. But well, he always listened strange stories the old officers tell, and now he just hope this is not the case.

So, there at the doctor's house, they listened the boy Loi with disbelief.

Night came, and the ranger took the boy his house.

    (During the second Night)

Dundièn Loi decides to walk the dreams of his village.

He just passes on with the proper ritual, the only ritual he's a master, to open the dreamway and so entered some people's dream this night.

After going the ranger's dreams, he entered the young waitress Drýka Bo's dream.

She's crying on her dreams, and he watches everything.

Suddenly, the dreams started to attack him. A huge cloud of black birds appeared from nothing, and a canion formed under his feet. He started to fall, and controlling dream he created a passage off there, taking the black birds with him to his own dreamcasting.

And he got aware, breathing fast.

    - Shit - he says - I've got the Haunter to my dreams.

He puts his hand on his face, knowing he's doomed now. And so, he waited the day break and go tell the ranger what happened.

    (Day 3 - Friday)

    Music :: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUd8ki1sMxc

    - I'm talking seriously, ranger. I've took the Haunter to my dreams.
    - Do you enter people's dreams while they're sleeping, boy? This is too invasive, even if I don't believe in anything like magic, to tell the truth.
    - I've got the Haunter with me, and I'll have to kill it now - the boy mumbles in fear.
    - He may be talking seriously, ranger - says the doctor.
    - Doctor, we need the information which is in the man's Pk computer now. I know this is a crime, but we're in an investigation, a murder investigation. What do you think?
    - Hhm,... I agree. The only one on town who could do it is Kappko.
    - I'll go there and ask him to break the codes.

While the ranger went to Kappko's, Loi started to walk from one side to another, on the second floor of doctor Pellsèg's house.

    - My 'olographic table's broken, ranger.
    - Kappko, this is serious. We need this information, and I know you hate agreeing with me and the doctor to move the body during the night, but I am the law in here. If we decided to do it, we need to find the guilty before it leaves town, and that's probably today. We need to know who the dead man was.
    - I agreed to move the body because you've sai' me to agree, ranger. But hacking a Pk is a non-bailable crime, and I'm goin' jail fo' that.
    - Kappko,...
    - Oooke. That's oke, ranger. I'll do it, but you assume the reapons'bility fo' that.

The best gamer in town turned his holographic table on, and started hacking the Pk computer, on the back rooms of his old sick father's restaurant. In about two hours, all the information was recovered. The ranger so tell him to erase all the information, and he did it soon away.

But so, the specialist in games started to think about everything that's happening, and watch everything from his own table computer.

The ranger went back the hostel restaurant to talk to the girl Bo.

    - We need to talk, Bo - says him - Get dressed, and come with me right now.

She got some clothes, but even if she didn't know what's happening, she's confident the ranger's doing all he can do to the good of everyone.

    (Back to the Doctor's house)

    - Doctor, we're on quarantine now, and you'll say this if someone asks. Tell them we've got a cold, and to avoid passing this to everyone, we're under care.
    - Hhm,... oke, ranger. But the man's car is still on the front of the sanduicherie. I tell you to ask on eof the two officers to take it to the ranger office.
    - I'll do it.

The doctor so sealed the second floor's metal grid door.

    Music :: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4KCx5cPrH8

    - Now, boy. You say what we need to do.
    - Hhm,... ranger - says the girl - I'm not feeling well. I'll take a room and rest, is that oke?
    - That's oke, Bo. Go get some rest.
    - Ranger, all I can do is to investigate my grimoire to see what to do.
    - So do it. I'm organizing the investigations from my Pk, and if you're not telling the truth, you know now you're my first suspect. Be careful, boy.
    - I'm not lying. I know what's happening.
    - Me too. I don't see magic anywhere, boy, and you're my suspect.
    - But,... - he just sighed, and looked at his grimoire.

Two hours later, the ranger and the boy listened to a strange noise from the room the girl was sleeping. The ranger mouthed "Stay here" to Loi, and went to see.

When Kue opened the door, he saw a ghost around the girl and she was in up the air.

He didn't know what to do at the sight of it.

The ghost desapeared, and the girl softly went down the bed. So, the closet door opened and he took his gun off the holster, but nothing happened. He went back the entrance room and the boy saw his pale face, put his book away and got up to talk.

    - What happened?
    - It IS a ghost - says the ranger - I've seen it, right now.
    - The book says the Haunter's stronger as a powerful wizard during the days after "eating". Yes, it ate the man it killed.
    - What are we going to do, now?
    - I'm working on it, but the book stay changing to pages with nothing to do with the case, to show pages about opening portals.

They listened to a haunting noise, from the back of the corridor.

    - Go on, boy. The case is yours, and we are doomed. I'll call the doctor from downstairs.
    - I'm working on it, ranger.
    - Do your best.

Minutes later, doctor Pellsèg was taking pulse from the ranger and the boy, to see nothing was wrong.

At this moment, when the doctor was taking pulse of the boy, the ranger saw a white small hand coming from the side of the boy's head. He saw the ghost of a small girl, about eleven, behind the boy's head, and when she saw him looking she just disappeared.

    - It's a ghost, doctor - he says - I've just seen her. She's a small girl, eleven. Man, we're doomed. Don't you think we should call the phenomenologists now, doctor Pellsèg?
    - They would destroy our city, and the case would go to the media as a phenomenologist case, what would for sure bring all kind of mad people to town - resumed the doctor.
    - Boy, the case's yours. Just find a way to take this "thing" away, or,...
    - I'm working on it, ranger - says Loi.

Doctor Pellsèg went back the rooms to take his medicine, and the noise of wood cracking and a man's scream got the ranger off to run and see what was that. When he got to the rooms on the backside, there was a ghost with four spider legs and a mouth of dangerous teeth ready to kill and eat the doctor.

He took his gun and shoot twice. Pah! Pah! - and it disappeared.

The doctor's white coat was full of a substance part green part blue, when he got the man up his feet, and they went to the main room again.

    - Wake the girl, doctor - the ranger says - No one's safe here. Boy, what do you have?
    - We need to talk with the haunter, to understand it's story and break the curse over it's spirit, but nothing on how we could defend ourselves.
    - Damn it! Keep doing your research, boy. Doctor, I need caoffee.
    - I'll do it, but please stay calm, ranger.
    - It's a daemon, doctor! It a real real daemon.
    - It's not a daemon, ranger - says the boy - We would be in real danger if it was a daemon.
    - Doctor, I need caoffee please.

Hours were passing, and here and there the ghost appeared, haunting them.

The girl started to shake in fear, and squeezed on the sofa. The ranger looked the streets all the time, but it seems his gunfire wasn't listened on the village. He keeps saying "We're doomed", madly, what didn't helped the boy to find anything useful on the grimoire.

(That night, at the Doctor's house)

    Music :: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PheCRfqXDwk

When it comes night, they started to see the haunter ghost moving, making noises.

    Moving things, appearing and disappearing.

They didn't sleep, and the fear was in the air, making breathing difficult.

The girl was shaking all the time, and so she fell asleep.

Only to wake with the squelching noise on the house, and start to cry, and the ranger took off his shirt, branding the gun in various directions.

And so, the doctor came up, saying he let his nurse droid take care of everything, while they deal with the ghost upside. The ranger asked for a special medical adhesive to stay awake. The boy kept awake, trying to read a book which decides for itself what you want to read. Strange noises and ghostly mists were happening all the time, and the ranger continuously asked the boy to find it fast how they can deal with the monster.

Then, in the middle of the night, while the doctor was holding his Pk on his right hand, they saw her.

By the corridor, they all sensed danger on the place. A pale ghost of an eleven years old girl, stoped by the passage, looking like a dangerous weird figure.

    (End of Session)

How are they going to succeed?

I hope you're enjoying your reading here at the Blog, and,...
